Renovating 101 Part 4:

People like changes, because they get tired of the same old things they stumble upon day after day. For all those that need to have more options in order to keep their spirits up, developing interior design skills can be the perfect way of doing so. Interior design is an art expression and in order to master it you have to pay attention to the little details that count a lot.

It is so often that people are not aware of the tools they use when doing their home improvement, making use of the wrong ones just to get it done more quickly. Using the appropriate tools will prevent you from hurting yourself and damaging the project that you have initiated.

Let’s take for example some small items that you will most probably use in the fixing process.

The screwdriver is the most common tool that someone could make use of. Using the adequate screwdriver size and head is very important, because if you fail to do so you can break the screw, making it impossible to remove.

The scraper, putty knife and spreader are three distinct tools with specific uses, despite the fact that people tend to use one for all three. Scrapers have a thin, flat surface to enable the reach under the area that you want to be scraped off. Putty knives are a little more flexible and they are used for the application of wood and wall putty. Spreaders are used to spread mortar, grout and other applications.

These are only a few examples from a wide series of equipments that you should take into consideration and understand the correct way to use them.

Above all, being safe is the most important thing that you should think of when doing your home improvement. Take care of your working waste such as wood shavings, sawdust, errant nails, and other remains which might endanger your work.

Face protection is also an important aspect. When you are sanding, nailing, sawing or doing similar operations, put on a pair of safety glasses that will protect you from the flying objects. Wearing a dust mask will prevent you from inhaling material dust or chemicals.

Having these said, whether you are in a fixing mood or you are setting in your home’s renovation, remember that no project is worth risking your health for. Use the appropriate protection gear at all times and be safe!
