Origami-Inspired Interior Design

Origami, derived from the Japanese words “ori” (meaning “folding”) and “kami” (meaning “paper”) is the traditional Japanese folk art of paper folding, which started in the 17th century AD and was popularized in the mid-1900s. This craft can be easily considered a game. The origami experts, though, think of it as an art form, as it develops into a wide range of models, based on the artists’ creativity and ingenuity.

Origami consists in the ability to outline the objects’ basic features and express them within pure and simple shapes. The possibilities for incorporating this concept are endless, delivering products of the artists’ unlimited imagination.

Folding and wrapping can be done in many inspiring ways, by turning a flat surface into elegant shapes and figures. For this reason, the origami technique addresses unique personalities that are able to create distinctive objects, with own spatial identities.

Designers have drawn inspiration from the simple elegance of this ancient art, delivering a variety of eye pleasing elements that transcend the ephemeral nature of paper sculpture. These innovative elements illustrate the constant redefinition of this art form that has evolved from mere paper architecture, to interior accessories, furniture elements, decorating themes and all the way to exterior design.

Designers have come up with sleek and simple accessories, showing off a clean, light weight design.
