Creating a Fantasy World for Your Child

Share

Close your eyes and think back to your childhood. I remember how every item could be a perfect toy that completed my collection. How every corner was the perfect hide-out spot away from the outside world. How I could look out the window and see whatever my mind wanted me to see. How closing my bedroom door meant entering my own fantasy world that only I had access to. How I couldn’t wait to fall asleep and see what journey my imagination would take me on. I could go on forever, because childhood years are something one would always want to remember.

This is exactly what you should think of when you start decorating your kid’s bedroom. A child’s imagination is one of the most important aspects that define your kid and it needs to be carefully shaped and preserved.

Therefore, it is imperative that you disconnect from your grown-up life and access your personal imagination. You need to innovate and reinvent both yourself and your kid’s bedroom, coming up with new identities for the space that will shape his/her personality.

Be sure you know your children before setting up a new décor. Try to find out what stimulates their imagination. Whether it is adventure, rock climbing, treasure seeking, fighting dragons, carpet flying, whether they want to be pirates, brave warriors, kings, princesses, fairies, kids should be encouraged in shaping their dreams.

Besides safety, style and comfort, colors are key ingredients of a fantasy décor. You should know that pink is no longer related only to girls and blue to boys. The color theme has broadened towards bright hues – yellow, green, red, purple, orange – and pastel ones. In fact, you can easily mix colors according to the chosen setting.

Try turning the essential pieces of furniture (bed, bookshelf and desk) into fairytale ones, so your child would feel less in an ordinary bedroom and more in his/her fantasy world.

Every accessory is a ticket to a journey your child will always remember, an element of the puzzle that will later be his/her personality. Take your time, think things through, listen to your child’s wishes and dreams and you will find yourself involved in one of the most creative, fun and stimulating interior projects. Enjoy!
