Award Winning Contemporary Design

In 2009, as an attempt to establish themselves as talent scouts, De Dietrich, a UK based household appliance company, and FagorBrandt, a french household appliance company, have both joined hands to assemble a design competition entitled “Les trophées du Design” (which roughly translates to Design Awards.) This competition was created as a chance for young designers to establish themselves and earn some recognition, as well as a generous first prize of 5000 euros. The designers Erwan Lestang and Mikael Bitton emerged as the victors of this competition, and have since went on to become world renowned designers.

Fevzi Karaman’s Modular Kitchen Design

Share

One of the most prominent dilemma that a designer faces today is a lack of space. Contrary to the wording of that statement, this is not a recent dilemma. Over the centuries, designers, architects, contractors, engineers, and everyday people, have been struggling with efficiently managing space. A great solution to this, is the concept of modular design. Modular design is essentially a way organizing a complex system into a series simple smaller systems. The upcoming Turkish designer Fevzi Karaman has designed just that.

While experimenting with organization of the complex system that is the kitchen, Fevzi Karaman created this compact module based kitchen apparatus. This modular kitchen comes equipped with a sink, a ceramic stove, an oven, garbage receptacles, and seemingly limitless storage space. With the ability to transform shape, this kitchen unit has a number of different personalities. Whether making an early breakfast, cooking dinner, making drinks for a late night party, this kitchen unit is capable of fitting most every need.
